Pig’s blood! Black pudding is at the top of the superfood charts

And yes, we do mean the one that you fry up in the pan for breakfast

I used to wonder why all super foods were so exotic and strange, but no more. For it was announced last week that black pudding is one of the most super foods on the menu.

Now I love black pudding, uniquely here at MHM Towers where my colleagues and family are a little squeamish about its origins, being pig’s blood and all…

Ironically I gave it up as a staple menu item many years ago because of the fat content, but with the tectonic shift in attitudes to fat content in food it would now seem that the benefits far outstrip the risks, so long as a modicum of caution and moderation are applied.

According to the Daily Mail; “Blood sausage is going to become a superstar in 2016 as it's packed with protein and practically carb free. It's also a great source of protein, potassium, calcium and magnesium.

It's also rich in iron and zinc - two minerals frequently missing from modern diets. Iron is needed to make healthy blood cells and prevent anaemia. Iron deficiency also leads to fatigue and poor concentration.”

So I’m putting black pudding back on my menu as of now.

I feel healthier already…or is that smug?
